The show became a national sensation, broadcasting on over 600 stations at its peak and reaching millions of listeners, making it one of the most popular radio broadcasts of the last several decades. It also spawned a small franchise around one of its storytelling segments: “News from Lake Wobegon.” This fictional town, invented by Keillor, has become the setting for many comedic stories and novels.
