The Man in the Iron Mask. By Alexandre Dumas. Illustrated by Eddy LeGrand. Illustrated Edition. Heritage Press. New York, 1964.
$25.00
French author Alexandre Dumas published some of the best novels and plays of the nineteenth century. He became an international literary figure through his plays in the 1830s, but his most lasting contributions are without question his novels, especially the d’Artagnan Romances. These serialized stories are more commonly compiled as the novels The Three Musketeers and The Man in the Iron Mask. The latter tells the story of the imprisoned twin brother of the king of France who is freed by Musketeer Aramis in a ploy to capture the power of the French monarchy. The work has been adapted to numerous films, stage productions, and television. It is a classic of French literature and remains one of Dumas’s best works.
This illustrated edition is in very good condition. In the original full cloth, very good with only rubbing to spine ends and fading to spine. Text block fine. Speckled edges. With the original slipcase, very good with only rubbing and chipping.
A very good illustrated edition of The Man in the Iron Mask.
