Ludwig Wittgenstein is one of the most important philosophers of the twentieth century. His works contribute to schools of thought as broad as psychology, logic, linguistics, and mathematics. He taught at the University of Cambridge and developed a loyal circle of pupils who recognized his genius despite his small body of work. In fact, he published only one book-length work in his lifetime: Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, which today ranks among the greatest philosophical treatises ever written. As his reputation grew, however, his broader philosophical investigations became the subject of much scholarship, and in this regard, his pupils led the way. This is especially evident in this volume: Lectures on Philosophical Psychology. It contains notes on Wittgenstein’s lectures from three of his most promising students: P.T. Geach, K.J. Shah, and A.C. Jackson. The notes recount the lectures on philosophical psychology in great detail. They play out much like a series of thought experiments that provide insight into the philosophical underpinnings of human psychology and behavior.
