Stanislav Grof was a psychiatrist in the twentieth century who led pioneering work on transpersonal psychology and the use of psychedelics in mental health treatment. In LSD Psychotherapy, he publishes his work in what was one of the first major scholarly overviews of the subject. It contains everything from a history of psychedelics and mental health to approaches to LSD treatments and non-medical use. The text brings together decades of research and practice, making it one of the few scholarly works on the subject from the era. Today the stigma around psychedelics and mental health have diminished somewhat, but Grof’s work proves they were worthy of study through the mid-twentieth century.
