Allen Drury was an American author who published a remarkable amount of literature spanning all sorts of subject matter. As a political reporter during WWII, he catalogued some of the most consequential political decisions in American history. He later fictionalized some of those experiences in Advise and Consent, a novel that would earn him the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction. For many decades, he published numerous other works, including this volume: A God Against the Gods. It is a historical novel set in ancient Egypt, telling the story of Pharaoh Akhenaten and his attempts to establish a new religion. It is an exciting novel and was quite popular upon publication. Drury released a sequel the next year, too. They are some of the most widely read historical fiction set in ancient Egypt.

This limited first edition is in very good condition. In the original red leather with elaborate gilt stamping, very good with only rubbing to bottom edge. Text block near-fine, only former owner’s signature to limitation page and minor rubbing to edges. All edges gilt. Silk moire endpapers and bookmark sewn in.
