Chinua Achebe was a Nigerian novelist who ranks among the best fiction writers of the twentieth century. For several decades, he published internationally celebrated works that have come to be known as classics–and essential reading for students of African literature. In particular, his first novel, Things Fall Apart, is often assigned reading in high school and college classrooms. Yet in his lifetime, his other novels were also popular (sometimes more so). Anthills of the Savannah is one of his greatest achievements. It was a much anticipated work, appearing after two decades in which Achebe did not publish novels. It is the story of the political upheaval of a fictional nation called Kangan. It was incredibly well-received upon publication. It also offers insight into Achebe’s experiences and perspectives of the real Nigerian Civil War. Many consider it the best African novel of the decade. It remains one of the best works by Chinua Achebe.

This first American edition, first printing is signed by Achebe on the title page. It is in very good condition. In the original quarter cloth, near-fine with only bumping to spine ends. Text block about-fine, only eraser marks to front free endpaper. In the original dust jacket, very good with creases, chipping, rubbing, and soiling to edges.

A very good signed first American edition of Anthills of the Savannah.
