Gary Soto is a celebrated American author who writes poetry, fiction, and memoirs. Much of his work is set in California and addresses themes related to his identity as a Mexican-American. He is also known for his young adult fiction, writing about childhood experiences and perspectives. In Baseball in April, Soto provides several short stories involving baseball, childhood, and living in California. They are exceptional stories woven together by shared characters and themes. It is a deeply American text, too, reflecting on our culture through its greatest pastime.
