Clifford A. Pickover is a researcher and author with various interests in science and computation. He earned a PhD from Yale and worked at IBM for several years. He has been awarded hundreds of patents. He has been an editor, blogger, and contributor to numerous scientific journals. Pickover has also published dozens of books. In this volume, Computers, Pattern, Chaos and Beauty: Graphics from an Unseen World, Pickover presents a richly illustrated analysis of computers and pattern recognition. The work is part computer science, part theory of art, part history of science. Published in 1990, it precedes much of the general public’s exposure to the incredible powers of pattern recognition via computation. It was also Pickover’s first book, helping to establish him as an innovative science writer in the period.
