A Tramp Abroad, first published in 1880, contains some of Mark Twain’s best travel and humor writing. Part fiction, part memoir, it describes Twain’s journey through Europe alongside fictionalized versions of real people–and, in some cases, anecdotes and stories that Twain frames as real, but in reality, most of these short asides are entirely made up by Twain himself. It was an anticipated volume in Twain’s lifetime. Many readers considered it an unofficial sequel to his other popular travel writings. This illustrated edition is a wonderful version of the text. It pairs Twain’s tall tales and travelogues with drawings by David Knight.
