John Lewis was one of the most influential activists and politicians of the 50 years. He was a major figure in the Civil Rights Movement. He led sit-ins at segregated restaurants. He was one of the first Freedom Riders. He took part in the Selma voter registration campaigns which infamously culminated in Bloody Sunday at the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Lewis was one of the many marchers who were beaten by the Alabama police.
