Michael Ondaatje is a Canadian author who consistently publishes exceptional literature. His most famous work is The English Patient. It won Ondaatje the Man Booker Prize in 1992 and a Golden Man Booker Prize in 2018. Many other quality works followed, but The English Patient remains his most celebrated novel. It follows several characters who come together in Italy during WWII. Of those characters, the titular patient, who is burned so badly he is unrecognizable, becomes the catalyst for several revelations throughout the narrative. In 1996, the novel was adapted to film, starring Ralph Fiennes, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Juliette Binoche. It won numerous Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
