He published over two dozen novels and short story collections. He also published numerous letters and critical works. For all his achievements, Updike was awarded two Pulitzer Prizes for Fiction, two National Book Awards, several National Book Critics Circle Awards, and many other accolades. Rabbit, Run is arguably his most important text. It was just his second novel, but set forth his Rabbit series which came to be one of his most acclaimed. Rabbit, Run in particular is often cited as one of the best novels of the twentieth century. It established Updike as an author of brilliant characterization and one with fidelity to the middle class American experience. It remains an important literary achievement and a highly sought-after volume for any collector of American literature.
