William Carlos Williams is a beloved American poet whose imagist and modernist works remain some of the best from the era. Poems like “This Is Just to Say” and “The Red Wheelbarrow” are often assigned reading and sources of inspiration still today. Williams was the winner of the National Book Award for Poetry and a posthumous Pulitzer Prize. The Poetry Society of America named its premier prize after him. In A Voyage to Pagany, Williams applies his gifts of language to prose. At its face, it is a novel following an American doctor traveling through Europe. Yet it is also deeply autobiographical. Williams, of course, was a practicing physician. He also traveled to Europe several times before the publication of A Voyage to Pagany. For these reasons, the work is often classified as a travelogue. It contains numerous observations that quickly reveal Williams’ perspectives of Europe. 

This first edition, first printing is inscribed by Williams on the front free endpaper. It is in very good condition. In the original cloth boards, brown decoration and label variant, very good with bumped corners and rubbed edges. Text block about-fine, only faded top edge and rubbing to bottom edge. In the scarce original dust jacket, good with chipping, creases, and small closed tears.
