General William C. Westmoreland served in the United States Army for decades. In WWII, he rose to the rank of colonel and saw combat across much of the European front. In the 1950s, he continued to serve in Korea and Japan, becoming brigadier general at the age of 38. Then in the 1960s, he rose to become the commander of U.S. forces in Vietnam and the Army chief of staff. In A Soldier Reports, General Westmoreland recounts the first moments he learned he would take command in Vietnam, the development and implementation of his campaigns, his appointment as Army chief of staff, and much more. It is a sweeping but thorough look at his years at the highest levels of service to the United States military, told with engaging, spare prose. 

This first edition, first printing is warmly inscribed to General Westmoreland’s former classmate. It is in very good condition. In the original quarter cloth, very good with only bumping and rubbing to edges. Perpendicular fabric lines to front board an anomaly from production, unique to this copy. Text block about-fine, only creases on pages 233, 234, and 407 to 414. In the original dust jacket, very good with dampstaining to bottom edges, and some small closed tears and creases.
