The Game. By Tex Maule. First Edition, Early Printing. Random House. New York, 1963.

$25.00

The ascendance of American football in the twentieth century is a rich and captivating history. In this large volume, sports writer Tex Maule pairs his detailed account of the National Football League with numerous historic photographs and images. A true fan of the game, Maule’s history begins with the formation of the NFL in the 1920s and takes readers to the AFL merger in the early 1960s. There are chapters on the many franchises–most still in existence, but some moved or rebranded. Maule’s prose is engaging, evoking true appreciation for the game, but the work is truly brought to life through its photographs. They occupy half of the contents and they include snapshots of some of football’s greatest players and coaches.

This first edition, early printing is in very good condition. In the original quarter cloth, very good with only fading to edges. Text block fine. In the original dust jacket, very good with chipping, closed tears, and creases.

A very good early printing of Tex Maule’s picture history of the National Football League.
