Ash Wednesday. Inscribed by Ethan Hawke. First Edition, First Printing. Knopf, 2002.

$50.00

Ash Wednesday is Ethan Hawke’s second novel. It was published after his major film successes in Training Day and Before Sunrise. Critics were skeptical about his writing ability, presuming him an actor whose hubris and fame led him to suppose a writerly talent. Yet Ash Wednesday mostly subverted expectations. Critics noted its tactful description, absorbing plot, and believable characters. It is a romance between a young army veteran and a hospital worker. Over the course of the novel, they travel across the US together in what becomes a transformational journey that solidifies their bond. Hawke has gone on to write several other novels, but Ash Wednesday remains one of his most popular.
