A Communication to My Friends. By George Moore. Limited Edition. One of Only 1,000 Copies. Nonesuch Press. London, 1933.

$30.00

Irish author George Moore produced a great number of works in his lifetime. His novels, short stories, and poems serve as bridges between the Realist literatures of the 19th century and the Modernist literatures of the 20th. Moore is also an instrumental figure in the Irish Literary Revival, creating dramas and other works that capture essential aspects of Irish culture. Early in his writing career, he was also a proponent of Naturalism, adopting stylistic and genre choices defined by French contemporaries such as Emile Zola. Contained in this slim volume is the last work of Moore’s life. It began as an introduction to his other works, but quickly became a larger artistic memoir intended for an audience of his friends. It was drafted at a feverish pace up until his last days, and went unrevised, but the quality of the prose is astounding, and the value undeniable. The Nonesuch Press published the work within the same year in a small run of only 1,000 copies. It commemorates George Moore’s life and work, and provides valuable insight into his artistic and literary perspectives.

This limited edition is in very good condition. In the original half leather spine with gilt stamped label, fine. In the original boards, about fine with only minor soiling to back board. Text block fine. Deckled edges. In the original dust jacket, good with large closed tears, chipping to foot of spine, and creases and chipping to edges.

A fine scarce Nonesuch Press limited edition of George Moore’s communications with his friends.
