Tobias Wolff is one of the most acclaimed short story writers of the last 60 years. He is a key figure in the short story renaissance of the late 20th century, alongside Raymond Carver and John Cheever. His work has appeared in numerous literary magazines, including The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Granta, and Harper’s. He is a PEN/Faulkner Award recipient and a winner of the National Medal of Arts. This volume, The Night in Question, contains fifteen of his stories. It is arguably his best short story collection to date. The titular story remains one of the most anthologized, but “Bullet in the Brain” may have a larger cult following. It is a story at once comedic, realist, and surreal. “Bullet in the Brain” finishes this collection. It is its first book-form appearance.

This first trade edition is inscribed and dated by Tobias Wolff on the title page. It is in fine condition. In the original half cloth boards, near fine with only very minor fading to head of front board and minor rubbed edge on bottom board. Text block fine. In the original dust jacket, especially fine.

A fine inscribed first trade edition of Tobias Wolff’s The Night in Question.
