Gulliver’s Travels. By Jonathan Swift. Illustrations by Fritz Eichenberg. Illustrated Edition. Easton Press. Norwalk, Connecticut, 1976.

$50.00

Gulliver’s Travels has been an inspiration for English literature since its publication in 1726. It was an immediate success that instigated widespread discussion about its effective satire of the travel and exploration subgenres that were popular at the time. The work was first published anonymously, but Swift eventually garnered credit. Gulliver’s Travels is also considered one of the earliest fantasy novels. With its Lilliputians, giants, and Yahoos, there is no work quite as fantastic from the 1700s, making Gulliver’s Travels an important forerunner for many works that followed. It has been adapted to film, television, radio, and illustration numerous times.

This illustrated edition was published exclusively for members of the Easton Press Collection of the 100 Greatest Books Ever Written. Fine condition, containing Fritz Eichenberg’s wood engravings from the 1940 Heritage Press edition. Bound in full tan leather, finely gilt stamped. Orange silk bookmark ribbon sewn in. Raised bands. Gilt edges. Text block fine.

A fine collector’s copy of Gulliver’s Travels.
