Swann’s Way. By Marcel Proust. Limited Edition. Franklin Library. Franklin Center, 1982.

$40.00

Marcel Proust was a French literary critic and novelist in the twentieth century. His most notable literary achievement was the monumental series of novels collectively titled À la recherche du temps perdu, translated in English as either In Search of Lost Time or Remembrance of Things Past. These novels were hugely influential to the Modernist Movement. Many American and European authors ranked them the most significant literary achievements of the period. The first volume in the series, Swann’s Way, established Proust’s influence and style. It follows the narrator as he reflects on his childhood, family, and daily experiences in some of the most masterful first-person narration ever put to page. Fellow authors––from Virginia Woolf to Vladimir Nabokov––consistently name it the best novel of the period. It remains one of the most important novels from the twentieth century and a pinnacle of modernist literature.
