President Ronald Reagan was one of the most dominant politicians of the late twentieth century. He was elected to the office in 1980 over incumbent Jimmy Carter. His second term saw a major electoral win, securing 525 electoral votes, winning all but Minnesota and Washington DC. He remained popular through his years in office largely because of cooling relations with Russia and a booming economy. In subsequent decades, however, the Iran-Contra Scandal and the long-term negative impacts of his “trickle down” economics have shaded his legacy. Still, as far as former presidents go, he remains exceptionally popular among conservatives. In this volume, An American Life, Reagan provides his major autobiography. It was published two years after his presidency and was largely ghostwritten by Robert Lindsey. It is a sweeping narrative––covering his childhood all the way through his time in office. It is probably the most widely read and popular book by or about Reagan and an especially popular presidential memoir more generally.
This first edition, first printing is signed by President Reagan on his presidential bookplate affixed to the half-title page. It is in near-fine condition. In the original quarter cloth, fine. Text block near-fine, only minor soiling to bottom edge. In the original dust jacket, near-fine with only minor bumping to edges.
A near-fine signed first edition of An American Life.
