John Dos Passos was a prominent American novelist in the first half of the twentieth century. He published dozens of novels and works of non-fiction that consistently met positive reviews and widespread readership. His works are noted for their non-linearity and their inclusion of biographic elements, multiple perspectives, and journalism. His most lasting work is the U.S.A. Trilogy––the 42nd Parallel, 1919, and The Big Money. These sprawling novels are known for having captured the lives and perspectives of early twentieth century America. This volume, 1919, is the second installment. It contains the series’ most defining features and some of its most famous passages. It remains a favorite of Dos Passos readers. 1919 also consistently ranks among the best novels of the era.
