Ivanhoe. By Sir Walter Scott. Illustrations by Edward A. Wilson. Collector’s Edition. Easton Press. Norwalk, 1977.

$45.00

A historical novel set in medieval England, Ivanhoe romanticizes the Knights Templar, witch trials, and medieval tournaments. It was first published in 1819, before we established our modern (mis)conceptions of the medieval period, making it a forerunner for a popular genre. Our characterization of Robin Hood, for example, can be traced directly to Ivanhoe. It is one of Sir Walter Scott’s best novels.

This collector’s edition is in fine condition. In the original leather, finely gilt stamped. Raised bands. Gilt spine label. Text block fine. Gilt edges. Silk moire endpapers and bookmark sewn in.

A fine collector’s copy of Ivanhoe.
