Of Mice and Men. By John Steinbeck. Illustrated by Fletcher Martin. Collector’s Edition. Easton Press. Norwalk, 1977.

$30.00

John Steinbeck is a titan of American literature. His career saw dozens of book-length publications, dozens of bestsellers, a Pulitzer Prize and a Nobel Prize. Of his many achievements, Of Mice and Men is perhaps the one most widely read. It is a novella about two migrant workers in California during the Great Depression. Although it is shorter than many of Steinbeck’s other works, Of Mice and Men is no less challenging. Its adult themes and language have made it one of the most banned books in the United States. Yet it is also an undeniable classic, capturing the period in American history with sharp characterization and detail. Many consider it Steinbeck’s best work.

This collector’s edition is in about-fine condition. In the original brown leather, elaborately gilt stamped, about-fine with only minor rubbing to edges. Raised bands. Gilt spine label.
