Philip Pullman is an English author of young-adult fiction. His YA novels are consistently praised by critics and the general public alike. His Dark Materials trilogy is Pullman’s most famous series. They are fantasy novels set in multiple dimensions with children protagonists who consistently confront social, political, and relational problems. The works won numerous awards. They were also some of the bestselling YA novels of the era. The first volume, published in England as Northern Lights and in the U.S. as The Golden Compass, won the Carnegie Medal and became a surprise bestseller. Volume two, The Subtle Knife, continued the series and also met great acclaim. This set of the first American editions, first printings is in about-fine condition. Each volume in the original casing, near-fine with only some rubbing to edges. Text blocks near-fine, only minor soiling to edges. In the original dust jackets, about-fine or better with only bumping and rubbing to edges. Volume three, The Amber Spyglass, is signed by Pullman on the title page.
