American novelist Andy Weir has published some of the most commercially successful science fiction of the twenty-first century. Prior to his literary success, he was a computer programmer who met repeated rejections from publishing houses, so he began to publish his work on his personal blog. One such work grew into a heavily researched, novel-length project: The Martian. Its incredible popularity catapulted Weir to the forefront of science fiction. Then in 2017, he published Artemis, a science fiction novel involving a cast of characters living on the first city on the moon. It was an ambitious second novel. The work proved Weir’s capacity for hard science fiction yet again; although, many reviews felt the plot and characters were more one-dimensional than his previous work.
