Over several centuries, the term “libertine” has been used as a pejorative for a man who disregards social norms surrounding sexuality and monogamy. Yet it has also been a term embraced by certain freethinkers who question traditional moral standards. It also has associations with romantic men in general. In this volume, the poetry of those who would probably classify as libertines is compiled in a cheeky, slim text. Some of the contributors are major figures of seventeenth and eighteenth century poetry–poets like John Donne, Andrew Marvell, Robert Herrick, and many others. All of the poems involve erotic and romantic love. Alongside the text are illustrations by Anthony Amour. The illustrations exclusively depict voluptuous women, bringing the text and imagery together perfectly.
