But when his pseudonym becomes publicly known, he and his wife perform a symbolic funeral for this alter-ego–which, in turn, causes the evil alter-ego to manifest into a real person. The Dark Half alludes to King’s own pseudonym: Richard Bachman, the name under which he had published several especially dark and sinister titles. It is subsequently one of King’s most metafictional titles. For the most dedicated King fans, it’s a beloved volume.
