Irish playwright Samuel Beckett was one of the most influential literary figures of the twentieth century. His theatre of the absurd brought existential themes and seemingly nonsensical concepts to the forefront of Western playwriting. His most famous work is Waiting for Godot. First published in French in 1953, it introduces two characters–Vladimir and Estragon–who meet under a tree and wait together for Godot. Their conversations and interactions with several passersby are, on the surface, quite odd, but audiences, readers, and critics have found innumerable interpretations of the minimalist play. It remains a classic tragicomedy, Beckett’s best, and one of the best plays ever written. 

This first British edition, first printing is in very good condition. In the original full cloth, about-fine with only minor rubbing to spine. Text block very good, only slightly cocked and fading to endpapers. With the publisher’s note tipped in. In the original dust jacket, very good with some chipping, rubbing, and fading to edges, and one small closed tear to back flap. Preceded by the first edition in French and the first American edition.
