Jimmy Hoffa was a controversial union leader–the president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. He was notoriously involved in organized crime. He was convicted of several felonies in the 1960s and spent much of the decade in prison. Yet he still worked as Teamsters president behind bars. In 1971, Richard Nixon commuted his sentence and Hoffa returned to public life. Just several years later, however, he went missing. While controversy and conspiracy still surround the case, it is largely assumed he was murdered by the mob. Rogers, it is Hoffa’s own sympathetic view of his life and the crimes he was charged with. It covers his childhood in poverty, his ascendance to leadership in the Teamsters, and his trials.
