Robert A. Heinlein was a science fiction author of great renown in the twentieth century. Alongside Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Asimov, he is considered one of the Big Three sci-fi authors of the era. His most notable works are probably Stranger in a Strange Land and Starship Troopers, but his larger body of work is still highly regarded by sci-fi fans. In Beyond This Horizon, Heinlein presents one of his most overlooked classics. It was first serialized in Astounding Science Fiction in 1942. Several years later, this first book-form edition was published by the Fantasy Press. It is one of Heinlein’s earliest books. First editions are scarce. There were only about 3,000 produced in the first edition, 500 of which were signed and numbered. This copy is number 442 of the 500 signed copies. It is a remarkable novel that describes the lives of characters in a future society that is socially stratified by genetic engineering. It was awarded a Retro-Hugo Award in 2018.
This signed limited first edition is signed by Heinlein on the limitation page. It is in poor condition. In the original cloth, poor with fading and discoloration to cloth from significant foxing. Text block very good with minor foxing, former owner’s signature to front free endpaper, and minor cracking at page 148. In the original dust jacket, poor with major chips to both panels and spine, creases, fading, and closed tears.
A scarce signed limited first edition by Robert Heinlein, priced according to its condition.
