Music for Chameleons. By Truman Capote. First Trade Edition, First Printing. Random House. New York, 1980.

$50.00

Music for Chameleons was much anticipated when it was first published. Truman Capote’s literary output had slowed drastically in the decade prior, and so by 1980 it had been fourteen years since his last book-length publication. Subsequently, Music for Chameleons sold on the New York Times bestseller list for a record-breaking sixteen weeks (the longest ever at that time for a collection of short works). It was met with mixed critical reviews, but has since been called “the author’s best, most personal work” (Clark). This first trade edition was published simultaneously with a limited first edition. It is rarely found in this condition.

This first trade edition, first printing is in the original black cloth boards, fine. In the original purple dust jacket, fine.

A fine first trade edition by Truman Capot
