A Tramp Abroad. By Mark Twain. Signed by David Knight. Signed Limited Edition. Limited Editions Club. New York, 1966.
$75.00
A Tramp Abroad, first published in 1880, contains some of Mark Twain’s best travel and humor writing. Part fiction, part memoir, it describes Twain’s journey through Europe alongside fictionalized versions of real people–and, in some cases, anecdotes and stories that Twain frames as real, but in reality, most of these short asides are entirely made up by Twain himself. It was an anticipated volume in Twain’s lifetime. Many readers considered it an unofficial sequel to his other popular travel writings. This signed limited edition is a wonderful version of the text. It pairs Twain’s tall tales and travelogues with spectacular drawings by David Knight.
This signed limited edition is signed by Knight on the colophon. It is one of only 1,500 copies. It is in about-fine condition. In the original three-quarter leather over marbled boards, near-fine with only rubbing to spine ends. Text block near-fine, only tape and tape marks on endpapers. In the original slipcase, very good with one crack to bottom edge and minor soiling and rubbing.
An about-fine LEC edition of A Tramp Abroad.
