Theodore Roosevelt. By Henry F. Pringle. Collector’s Edition. Easton Press. Norwalk, 1987.

Henry Pringle was an American historian whose biographies of major American figures were hugely popular in the twentieth century. In particular, his biography of President Theodore Roosevelt was a bestseller and critically acclaimed. It won the Pulitzer Prize in Biography in 1932. The work is noted for its honest take on the often lionized president. While Pringle celebrates much of Roosevelt’s accomplishments, he also takes a close look at Roosevelt’s insecurities, ego, and historical blind spots. It remains one of the best presidential biographies ever written and Pringle’s best work.
