Chaim Potok was an acclaimed author of fiction and a rabbi in the late twentieth century. His literary career ascended quickly with his first novel: The Chosen. Published in 1967, it follows two young boys growing up in Orthodox Jewish families in Brooklyn during the 1940s. The work was a critical and commercial success. It is considered one of the best works capturing the Jewish experience in America during the period as well as one of the best young adult novels of the era. It also established Potok as one of the most widely respected Jewish authors in America. He went on to publish numerous other works, but none is so widely praised as The Chosen. This 25th Anniversary edition celebrates Potok’s achievement. It is a necessary volume for any collector of Jewish literature.
