Geraldine Brooks is an Australian-American author celebrated for her literary novels and nonfiction. Her work is noted for its vivid characterizations and interweavings of historical facts. Her first books were bestselling works of journalism and general nonfiction, making her a successful writer in the 1990s. Yet her career ascended to new heights in the 2000s as her novels began to achieve considerable acclaim. None is more celebrated and widely read than March. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2006. The novel is set during the American Civil War. It follows Mr. March, an abolitionist and chaplain, as he serves in the Union Army. Mr. March is a borrowed character, the notably absent father from Louisa May Alcott’s classic, Little Women. March is subsequently a novel connected to both real and fictional American histories. It remains Brooks’ greatest work and a classic of historical fiction.

This first edition, first printing is inscribed by Brooks on the title page. It is in fine condition. In the original quarter cloth, very nearly fine with only bumping to corners. Text block fine. In the original dust jacket, fine.
