Robin Hood is a folkloric outlaw dating back to at least the thirteenth century in England. Several criminals from the period have been considered as the inspiration for the Robin Hood legend, but no theories are conclusive. What is known is that the legend grew in popularity through ballads, verse, and plays throughout the centuries. The Robin Hood stories were revitalized again in the early 1900s by Paul Creswick, a popular English children’s story writer. N.C. Wyeth’s illustrations also spurred new interest. This volume brings the Creswick retellings and the Wyeth illustrations to life again. It is a classic portrayal of Robin Hood which influenced numerous other editions, films, and plays in the twentieth century.
