Throughout her career, Harris has paved the way for other Black women and Asian-American women in politics. This volume, The Truths We Hold, is her first memoir. It tells the story of her professional career and upbringing, providing personal insights into her life at a time when her national profile was growing. The work was published ahead of the 2020 presidential campaign wherein she eventually became the democratic VP candidate. It received positive reviews and helped to reveal Harris’s personal and professional origins to a national audience.
