Breakfast of Champions. By Kurt Vonnegut Jr. First Edition, First Printing. Delacorte. No Place, 1973.

$160.00

Kurt Vonnegut held perhaps the greatest cult following of any author in the last 100 years. He was a satirist and postmodernist whose novels touched on the zeitgeist of his generation. He grew up in Indianapolis through the Great Depression. He served in the US Army during WWII. He returned to write novels, short stories, and non-fiction that consistently captivated his readership. That readership continued to grow, too, until he found himself on bestseller lists. This novel, Breakfast of Champions, is emblematic of his rise to a popular readership. It was his first novel published after the commercial success of Slaughterhouse-Five. It spent dozens of weeks as a bestseller and remains one of Vonnegut’s most read and beloved novels. It was eventually adapted to film in 1999, starring Bruce Willis and Albert Finney.

This first edition, first printing is in very good condition. In the original orange cloth, very good with only rubbing to front board, seemingly from the production process. Text block very good, only slightly cocked. In the original dust jacket, very good with only minor bumping to spine ends, crease to front flap, and fading to spine.

A very good first edition of Kurt Vonnegut’s Breakfast of Champions.
