Carl Sagan is arguably the most influential ambassador of science from the twentieth century. He made significant contributions to our understanding of the moons in our solar system and to the atmospheres of Venus and Jupiter. Then, in 1980, he co-wrote and narrated the BBC series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, which catapulted his fame and elevated our cultural awareness of cosmology and space. Ann Druyan is equally influential; although, her career has not been so forward facing as Sagan’s (her husband). She is a television producer, novelist, and screenwriter who co-wrote the Cosmos series. She also co-wrote the blockbuster script for the film Contact. She was also the creative director of the Voyager Golden Record which contained numerous sounds from earth. In Comet, Sagan and Druyan co-author a comprehensive overview of comets from both cultural and scientific perspectives. It was a major bestseller published ahead of the 1986 appearance of Halley’s Comet. It remains an important work of popular science writing.
