Michael Shaara was an American author who is remembered primarily for his historical fiction. The Killer Angels was his greatest achievement. Told from a third-person perspective, the novel describes the events at the Battle of Gettysburg. It is historically accurate but contains riveting aspects of narrative that make it more than just a recounting. Shaara brings to life major historical figures, including General Robert E. Lee, General Longstreet, and others. The Killer Angels won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1975. It remains one of the best historical fictions on the American Civil War. In 1993, it was also adapted to film under the title Gettysburg, starring Tom Berenger and Martin Sheen.
