A Christmas Sermon. By Robert Louis Stevenson. First Separate Edition, First Printing. Scribner’s. New York, 1900.

$30.00

Robert Louis Stevenson composed some of the best adventure novels of all time, including Treasure Island and Kidnapped. His gothic fiction, including Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, is also widely regarded. Yet among his wider list of texts, A Christmas Sermon is uniquely adored for its Christmas spirit. It is a brief rumination on the holiday, mortality, and the potential for goodness in life. It was first published in Scribner’s Magazine in 1888. This first separate edition was released in 1900. Printed at the Merrymount Press, it is a wonderful slim volume on Christmas.

This first separate edition is in very good condition. In the original quarter cloth, very good with some rubbing to edges and fading. Slim text block fine. With a unique “Prayer for Christmas Eve” written on laid paper with decoration to margin. Without the scarce original glassine.

A wonderful copy of A Christmas Sermon by Robert Louis Stevenson.
