$90.00

Omar Khayyam, the astronomer-poet of Persia who lived and wrote in the Middle Ages, became a resurgent force in Western culture when Edward Fitzgerald translated his quatrains. While not an immediate success, Fitzgerald managed to market his translation and add to subsequent editions until the reading public and critics became fascinated with the philosophic and linguistic brilliance of the work. It has subsequently become one of the most adored collections of poetry for generations. This illustrated edition is a complete reprint of the first edition. It contains Frank Brangwynara’s color plates, tipped in. It is an especially scarce fine press edition of the work.

This illustrated edition is in very good condition. In the original cream cloth with decorative gilt and blue stamping, very good with some rubbing, fading, and soiling. Text block very good. Top edge gilt. Deckled fore-edge and bottom edge. Printed on T.N. Foulis’s handmade paper with rose watermark. Hinges between gatherings showing. All eight Brangwynara color plates present, tipped in.

A scarce fine press edition of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam with original color plates.
