Fifty Years of Golf. By Horace G. Hutchinson. Limited Edition. United States Golf Association. Far Hills, 1985.

$40.00

Horace Hutchinson was one of the most recognizable names in golf in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He competed at the sport’s highest levels, earning three top-10 finishes in the British Open. He was also a prolific sportswriter, generating some of the seminal texts on golf from the era. Fifty Years of Golf is arguably his most significant contribution. First published in 1919, it looked back on the sport over a period where its popularity had grown tremendously. Its chapters recount the formations of the modern version of the game with stories of the first major tournaments and players. This 1985 facsimile of the first edition commemorates Hutchinson’s important text. It contains all the original photographs and illustrations. For any golf collector, it is an essential volume.

This limited edition is in fine condition. It is one of only 1,500 copies printed. In the original green cloth boards, fine. Text block fine. In the original slipcase, very nearly fine with only minor bumping to edges.

A fine collector’s copy of Fifty Years of Golf.
