Tee Shots. By Bernard Darwin. Limited Edition. U.S. Golf Association. Far Hills, 1984.

$45.00

British author Bernard Darwin was an important figure in the golf boom of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The grandson of famed naturalist Charles Darwin, he utilized his privilege to advance his favorite sport, publishing numerous books on golf. He was also a respected player who led some of the most prestigious golf organizations in England at the time. In 2005, he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Tee Shots is one of his most beloved titles. It weaves together golfing tips with life philosophy–an early framing of golf as a gentleman’s meditation as much as sport. Some chapters are narratives aimed at children and young adults, inviting a younger generation into the sport as well. Most chapters were published as standalone pieces in various periodicals until 1907 when the first book-form edition was released. This 1984 edition is a facsimile of the 1907 first edition. It commemorates Darwin’s important text.

This limited edition is in fine condition. It is one of only 1,500 copies printed. In the original decorated cloth boards, fine. Text block fine. In the original slipcase, fine.

A fine collector’s copy of this golf classic.
