$350.00

D.H. Lawrence was a versatile English author who made great strides in the Modernist literary movement of the twentieth century. His poetry was prolific, sometimes applying new forms of imagery and line structure that stood out among the work from his era. Of his many collections, Birds, Beasts and Flowers contains probably his most anthologized poems, including Humming-Bird, Snake, and The Evening Land. It is considered a major poetic achievement, applying new modes of imagery, line, and stanza emblematic of the era. In this limited edition by the Cresset Press, the text appears on large folio pages alongside brilliant wood engravings by Blair Hughes-Stanton. It is one of only 500 copies printed in this edition. It is also an early edition of this collection. Published in 1930, it showcases Lawrence’s literary achievements sadly in the last year of his life. Cresset Press is also widely recognized as one of the best fine presses of the era. They published fine letterpress editions of many notable English works.

This limited edition is in very good condition. In the original vellum spine with marbled boards, very good with only some rubbing to edges and corners. Text block fine. Blair Hughes-Stanton’s wood engravings superb.

A very good fine press edition of D.H. Lawrence’s poetry.
