A Memoir. Signed by Barbara Bush. First Trade Edition, First Printing. Scribners. New York, 1994.

$55.00

As First Lady of the United States, Barbara Bush was popular with conservative voters and generally effective as an advocate for education and her husband President George H.W. Bush’s policies. Yet compared to other First Ladies, she often refrained from entering the public sphere, making her internal life more opaque. For this reason, her memoir is cited as a rare glimpse into her perspective as First Lady and a notable reflection on her husband’s presidency. The work covers a long life, from her upbringing to her marriage to her role as a mother, but the chapters on her time in the White House are the most revealing.

This first trade edition is signed by Barbara Bush on a bookplate pasted onto the front free endpaper. It is in very good condition. In the original half cloth boards, fine. Text block fine. In the original dust jacket, very good with only small closed tears and creasing, mainly at head of spine, some rubbing to edges, and price clipped.

A very good signed first trade edition of Barbara Bush’s memoir.
