Fire to Fire contains eleven remarkable poems by Mark Doty, one of the most recognized contemporary poets in America. His accolades include a National Book Critics Circle Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Lambda Literary Award, and the National Book Award for Poetry. He is also the first American poet to ever be awarded the T.S. Eliot Prize. His poems often include deft descriptions of cityscapes, complex yet natural syntactic constructions, and masterful command of free verse. His poems also often address his lover and the LGBTQ community. In Fire to Fire, these qualities and more richly adorn large folio pages alongside six color woodcuts by Lisa Schoenfielder. These woodcuts are done in several colors, with some colors applied by hand with watercolor, others printed with separate blocks. This signed limited edition is also noteworthy for its fine craftsmanship and scarcity. Published by the Sutton Hoo Press, an exceptional private press operating in rural Minnesota, this volume represents the necessary skill and artistry of the centuries’ old craft of bookmaking brought into the 21st century.

This signed limited edition is in fine condition. It is printed from Bembo types on dampened Somerset paper. The lap component binding, designed and executed by Julie Leonard, is long-stitched onto a handmade paper spine, with golden cloth over boards. There is an inset label on the front. Doty’s and Schoenfielder’s signatures appear on the limitation page.

A fine signed limited edition by Mark Doty, exceptionally scarce.
