Speaking of Accidents is a brilliant collection of poetry from Peter Everwine, one of the most important poets and teachers in America over the last several decades. His poems are rich with memory, spare yet vivid, enticing like burnished wood. He won many awards, including the Lamont Poetry Prize, a fellowship from National Endowment for the Arts, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. He was also a beloved professor at Fresno State University. In Speaking of Accidents, he provides nine poems of outstanding quality. Alongside the text are original woodcuts by Gary Young, fellow poet and notable printmaker whose designs are superb. This signed limited first edition is also noteworthy for its fine craftsmanship and scarcity. Published by the Sutton Hoo Press, an exceptional private press operating in rural Minnesota, this volume represents the necessary skill and artistry of the centuries’ old craft of bookmaking brought into the 21st century.

This signed limited first edition is in fine condition. It was printed from handset Bembo types on dampened Somerset, an English mouldmade paper. It is bound by Julie Leonard of Iowa City in cloth boards with a pastedown illustration and spine label. It contains seven original woodcuts. The author and the illustrator’s signatures appear on the signed limitation page.

A fine signed limited first edition by Peter Everwine and Gary Young, exceptionally scarce.
