The Human Comedy. By William Saroyan. Illustrations by Don Freeman. Book Club Edition. Harcourt, Brace & Co. New York, 1943.

The Human Comedy famously began as a film script, but during production Saroyan was removed from the project. As a result, he quickly took his script and turned it into a novel, published just before the film was released. The novel was an instant bestseller. It is widely regarded as Saroyan’s greatest work. This 1943 Book Club Edition, printed just a month after the first edition, coincided with the film’s release.

In the original orange cloth boards, near fine with only minor rubbing to spine. Text block near fine, only minor dampstaining and foxing to edges. In the original dust jacket, near fine only chips and rubbing to edges.

A near fine early edition of Saroyan’s greatest work.
